Marietta's Little Papermaking Manual

This manual was lovingly handcrafted from start to finish and describes how I make handmade paper from recycled papers, based on a 2000 years old tradition.

I designed and drew it by hand.

Then screen printed with 2 colours, folded by hand, numbered and signed.

When the manual is opened out it is 35x50cm, when folded it is 17.5x25cm.

Night sky donkey with wings

Yeti Toys papier mache donkey with yellow wings and a colourful striped mane and tail.

this dark blue donkey is not intended to be a toy since he is made from paper but he has a magical spirit and loves to fly in the starry night sky

sometimes he might fly off to visit his friend Yeti in the Himalayas but he will always return

this donkey was made with much love and is a papier mache creation (12.5 cm high to the tip of his ears)

he was made over several days since there are many stages in making papier mache

he is made from recycled newspapers, flour paste then painted with acrylics and protected with a water based varnish

the donkey will be sent in a recycled box and bubble wrap envelope

mounted in a lovely box decorated with origami paper with white cherry blossoms on a vivid orange background

the dress is made from beautiful Japanese origami paper (white cherry blossoms on a chocolate brown background)

the shirt and necktie are mounted onto the lid of the box and so the pair make a perfect gift

the necktie is made from recycled magazine paper and shows part of a bold typographic design

they can be propped up on a bookshelf or on your desk

they would also look lovely hung on the wall and I have included 2 mini triangular hooks which can be glued onto the back

the box is 13.5 x 17.5 cm (5.3 x 6.9 inches)

the houses are made from handmade papers from India, Thailand and the roof tiles are recycled magazine papers

in Japan there are hanging curtains found on shop entrances which are called "noren"

my houses have paper "noren", showing images from the Edo period

both houses have a sign in kanji - the first sign says "spring summer autumn winter" and the second sign says "geisha" (handwritten by my Japanese mum)

the houses are lit up with LED lights from within creating a warm atmosphere

the houses are on a painted and varnished wooden base, 18 x 26cm (7.1 x 10.2 inches)

the houses come in a box decorated with a strip of Japanese chiyogami paper and so would make a lovely gift

Bamboo boats 75 euro

The boats, lanterns and moon are made from handmade papers from Nepal and Thailand.

Each boat is lit up with a tiny LED light.

The varnished wooden base is 18 x 26cm (7.1 x 10.2 inches)

Requires a 9V battery which is not included.

It comes securely packed in a box decorated with a strip of Japanese handmade paper.

Sumo wrestlers 45 euro
Sumo wrestlers, paper cuts

The sumo wrestlers are hand drawn on fine paper, inked and carefully cut out. The sumo are wearing the ceremonial, fringed kesho-mawashi (in the Edo period this was worn during the bout). I have used beautiful handmade Japanese handmade paper for the kesho-mawashi.

The two sumo are mounted with wire onto a painted and varnished piece of wood.

These sumo are not wrestling yet, they are in the important bout preparation period

when they put their fists down they will be ready for their initial charge.

It comes securely packed in a box decorated with a strip of Japanese handmade paper.

The box is 22.8 x 25.8cm (9 x 10.2inches).
